Roses are .... black?

I'm at work minding my own business, going about my daily activities in my ordinary sweet and innocent way when I return to my desk to see a "priority" package waiting for me.

I immediately notice that the return address is from a company that specializes in sending roses to people. Not just any roses, mind you ... these ones are special!! These roses are of the rare variety that you can only get a few days after they have been cut from the vine. That's right, I got a package with a dead rose in it!!

"Who would send you a dead rose?" you might ask. I am asking that same question.

As it turns out, I don't have an answer. Not that I wouldn't love to know who sent me a dead rose, but apparently they forgot to enclose the card telling me whom the package was from.

I double-checked my Christmas list and sure enough, a dead rose wasn't on it.

First Day at PayPerPost

Today was my first as the PayPerPost VP of Sales.  I got up around 4:30 AM to catch a flight from Orlando to Chicago.  No problem finding the new offices.  The new digs are very high tech lofty and bright colors just the feel would want for a startup Web 2.0 company.  Spent a large part of the day planning the year long trade show schedule with Ted and Britt.  We selected those shows that will put us in front of the most marketers, agencies and bloggers.  Some were added others were deleted.  We have a lot of travel in front of us during the coming year but after this is completed the PayPerPost name should be firmly entrenched in the marketplace.

During lunch Ted and I discussed the building out of the sales team and what will be needed to ramp up sales, from headcount, support to sales management processes.   In addition we also discussed key senior positions management positions that need to be filled as well.

The day concluded with the screening of webisode 3 of rockstartup.com.  It's an episode you can't miss!  Looking forward to tomorrow as I have a great feeling with direction we are heading.

Holiday Party!

After an exciting day of touching trucks, everyone left to get dolled-up for the Holiday Party. This year it was a joint party, with PayPerPost's best friend, MindComet. Pete showed up with the best surprise of all, the letters 'PPP' shaved into the back of his head.

I have to say, our ladies looked kickin'! Britt and Karen looked downright hot in their dresses and I, well, I don't mean to brag...but I'm like the latina Marilyn Monroe- got more legs than a bucket of chicken. (Can you name that movie?) The guys were looking mighty delicious- suits across the board, crisp ties and product in their hair. This does not apply to Dray, Pete or Eric, as they all have shaved heads, eerily enough.

Ted gathered us for a round of Tequila shots, which didn't go down so well. Basically, we had to share something about someone in our circle and take the shot. Some things were common knowledge, some were personal and some were a tad risque. Don't worry, it's all caught on tape!

After that, we hit the dance floor and got jiggy wit it. Of course, by that I mean we moved about awkwardly while Pete did the Pulp Fiction dance and Ted took random pictures. Holiday cheer was spread throughout the land.

Charity Event: Touch-a-Truck 2006

Tis the season for giving- so give we did.  PayPerPost attended the second annual  Touch-a-Truck charity event, donations benefitting the Ronald McDonald House.  There were all kinds of trucks on the lot, from military vehicles and seasonal city busses to massive tow trucks, sanitation vehicles, tractors and firetrucks.

There were tons of kids, clamoring to jump into the front seat and blast the airhorn.  Some of them, ok all of them, were clearly terrified by Ted for some reason.  It must be the goofy grin and resounding 'HEY THERE!' that scared them.  Honestly, Ted and I went to check out the street cleaning truck and a kid was running right for us, she took one look at Ted and U-turned in 2.3 seconds.

Even we got to touch some trucks!  Alan, our cameraman, was lucky enough to be lifted hundreds of feet into the air on the firetruck's ladder.  Britt, Karen and I got to sit on an Army cargo truck- I got to wear a helmet!

All in all, it was a great event for an even greater cause and we were ecstatic to be there.  Big thanks to Britt for putting this together and for Ted, Karen, Pete, Sarah and Ashley for helping out.  High Fives!
