Still no iPhone Activation
Wow... I couldn't sleep last night because I was waiting to get an email letting me know that I could use my phone. It won't let you do anything until it is activated, no syncing of contacts, music, videos, nothing. You can't even play with the interface or setup any preferences.

I now feel like I have what people are calling the iBrick. It is the slickest damn iBrick I have ever seen but the device is completely useless at this point. ATT has really botched this whole experience, I am sure that good old Steve isn't happy that so many people are left with devices that don't work.

Waiting for my iPhone to activate
Tara was awesome enough to stand in line for me at the ATT store starting at 3pm today. I got there right about 6:15 and waited for an additional hour as the ATT store suffered multiple system failures trying to process all the purchases. I then rushed towards home, unpacking the phone at stoplights along the way.

I finally get home and plug in the phone and realize that I have to update my iTunes. Then I release I have to update OSX to 10.4.10 from 10.4.9, there goes another 20 minutes. I restart, plug the phone back in and start to go through the registration process. I get to the end, the screen says it may take up to 6 minutes to activate. Ten minutes later I get this:

apple iphone

That was an hour ago. I just called ATT and they said the network is overloaded and it may take 3-4 hours to get activated. In the meantime I can't do jack with the phone itself. It won't do anything until it is activated... bummer.

Karaoke 4 Cancer
I want to thank everyone who showed up for Karaoke 4 Cancer last night. We had an absolute blast and raised money for a great cause. I want to give a special thanks for John Reese of income.com, who couldn't make it to the event but donated a whopping $5,000 by himself towards the cause. Not only is John one hell of a marketer he is also one hell of a good guy. Thank you John!

PayPerPost June Birthdays & Anniversaries
As you know we at PayPerPost celebrate birthdays and anniversaries in...well, an unconventional manner. We perform something called a cakeplow. Yes, the experience of having icing stuck in your nostrils for days is an experience that is not soon forgotten!

These cakeplows are typically done on the last Friday of every month, and today is that lucky day! Scott & Travis both celebrated birthdays this month (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!), Veronique has been with the company for an entire year (see her post from yesterday), and Ted...Ted does it to "support" those who are also doing it, but I suspect he really just loves doing cakeplows.

In true PayPerPost fashion today's cakeplows were documented, and here are some of the pictures that were taken:

Ah yes, good times, good times! Do you do something interesting to celebrate your birthday or anniversary? If so then share it with us!

Happy Birthday, PayPerPost!
When you have time, look for the short paragraph titled 'The History of the Universe in 100 Words (or Less).' What I am going to write for you, on our awesome 1 year anniversary, is 'The History of PayPerPost in 100 Words, No Less.' Ok, it's actually 158 words, but we had a hell of a year, eh!?

See if you remember some of these, events, promotions, people, etc. Shall we?

The entire time I was writing that, I kept thinking '..We didn't start the fire..it was always burning since the world's been turning..!' I almost cried.

I encourage you all to read the first few months of the PayPerPost blog. Man, we have had some major fun, right? Honestly, I just want to thank everybody who has signed up, who has taken an Opp, who has written an Opp, who has shared their thoughts on the forum, who have popped-into our townhall meetings, Colleen and Sindy for the Vitamin Water, and mostly- Ted. I'd never say this to him in person because I'd cry which means he'd cry, and we'd probably both end up with our faces in cake, so I'll just say it here. I love everything that makes up this company, and I'm damn honored to be a part of it. Thanks :)
Love,
Véronique

Where Were We Then?
So where was I 5-10 years ago? Well, the truth be told, I can't really say too much about that time, because most of it would not be appropriate. Suffice it to say, those were my late high school/early college years, and I did have a good time. The reason I can't disclose too much is because I'm not exactly sure about various statutes of limitation. So instead, here are some highlights...

Graduated high school in '99. Over the next couple years, I did a bit of traveling throughout the Caribbean. At one point, I visited the land of my origins. That was fun. You can live like a king on the American dollar there.
Some highlights of that trip; I witnessed a possession and a subsequent exorcism, I was caught up in a race riot/attempted military coup, and at one point I woke up in the back of a pickup truck that was stopped by a flaming roadblock, and had about a half dozen AK-47's trained on myself and my companions. I tell you, you haven't lived until you've driven through a bonfire to escape machine gun wielding rebels. At 4-5ish in the AM, it's better than coffee.
I once worked at a zoo with primates and some other exotic animals. That was probably the highlight of that time of my life. Ever wrestled with a lizard that can and wants to kill you and eat you? Good times. The lemurs were my favorites though. They don't necessarily want to kill you, but if you're not careful, you will get peed on.

But aside from the occasional exciting moment, I was just another college student, with a typical college itinerary; party, party, party, party, show up for a test, wash, rinse, and repeat. Changed my major a few times as well. I also did a lot of mechanical work on heavy trucks. That was fun too. I still do, but not nearly as much as I used to.

Well that's my past in a nutshell. Did I enjoy those days? You bet. Did I do a lot of stupid things that could have landed me in a lot of trouble or worse? You bet. Would I do it again? Without a doubt.
:)

PayPerPost at the Digital Media Conference
PayPerPost attends and participates in numerous trade shows and conferences throughout the year. This allows for Ted & our team members to engage directly with both Advertisers and Bloggers. In fact, we've talked about several of these events here on our blog: BlogHer Conference '07, BlogHer Business Summit, and AdTech San Francisco.

Randy Mountz, Vice President of Sales, attended the Digital Media Conference in Silver Spring, Maryland, last Friday (June 22). He not only attended the conference but he also participated in a panel discussion. He's constantly on the road so he and the Sales team can grow our Advertiser network, but he set aside a few minutes of time this week to share a few things with both the PayPerPost team and our blog readers.

Here's what Randy had to say:

"The Digital Media Conference was held at the AFI Silver Theatre last Friday, June 22nd. The Conference covered all things in the digital media space both Web 1.0 and of course the new and exciting things in the emerging Web 2.0 space. The session I participated in, "Advertising 2.0: New Opportunities for Marketers," was jammed-packed, and least 50 hands raised up during the Q&A portion of the program. While there were certainly questions directed to all panel members it seemed the majority were directed at PayPerPost."

Randy also shares, "At the conclusion of the event many potential high-profile Advertisers approached me, expressing a strong interest in PayPerPost. We will be meeting with these clients over the next several weeks, in hopes of bringing them on board so Posties will have more exciting opportunities to blog and film about!"

Here is a little more detailed information about the session:

Panel 5 - Track 2: Advertising 2.0: New Opportunities for Marketers
It used to be that publishers were creators of content online. Given the escalation of consumer voices and the myriad platforms they have to express themselves, publishers’ roles are evolving towards aggregators and editors of content online. How do consumer voices in the content mix affect editorial voice, media planning, even creative executions? What new opportunities exist for marketers to tap into communities and niches? How do publishers retain the richness and diversity of their readers’ voices, yet maintain their own editorial tone and integrity? And what impact does the inclusion of consumer generated content have on the metrics publishers tout to differentiate themselves?

Karaoke 4 Cancer
This Thursday night is an extremely important one for me. It is the first ever Karaoke 4 Cancer event. This was an effort started while I was still at MindComet and has taken some time to come to fruition. You all know that I love a good time and singing Karaoke to raise money for charity is right up my alley.

Since I left Tara and her team at MindComet have grabbed the bull by the horns and put everything together. She has been working with Brit and Jenni here to get both companies helping out with such an important cause. One of my new years resolutions was to do more for charity and I am happy this is all coming together.

When I first started MindComet in 1999 I hired a CFO who shortly after was diagnosed with colon cancer and passed away with 9 months. I watched the whole thing unfold, visiting him in his home with hospice and his wife and children at his side. It was the first time I had seen anything like this and it touched my soul in a way I can't describe. Since that time I have hired people who have survived and beat cancer as well as people still battling cancer. I am astounded by how prevalent cancer is.

One of our own PPP team members lost a parent last week to cancer. I can't image what they are going through, it is very sobering to think just how fragile life is. We will all be there on Thursday to show our support in their time of need and help create a brighter future for all those touched by cancer.

The event is being held at Latitudes (Located on the 3rd floor of Chillers). 33 West Church Street, Orlando FL, 32801. There is a $10 cover at the door which includes one drink. All proceeds will directly benefit the American Cancer Society. You can also make a donation through the MindComet website.

RockStartup - Episode 28
Executive Decisions The PayPerPost executives work hard...and play harder during their retreat in Key West.

Hardest thing I ever did!!
I'm about to do the hardest thing I ever did, and I'm not looking forward to it one bit.

19 years ago, sat in a dingy office with a window that faced out onto a wall, I got extremely stressed out. I was a one man programming department for a construction company and had stuff thrown at me from every which way every day. On top of all that, I worked for the most vindictive, spiteful boss the world has ever known, a remnant of the 50's who happened to be in the right place at the right time when the company bought its first mainframe computer. He believed the boss should be referred to as sir, and kids like me shouldn't ever speak to anyone without first being spoken to. He once chastised me in fact for installing Windows 3 on my desktop Unix terminal PC, openly berating me for 'playing games' and wasting time looking at something that was obviously never going to catch on (Windows, that is).

So, on this one particularly stressful day, with the weight of the world on my shoulders, I left my office and trudged up the street to the newsagents. Trying to sound as grown up as I could (I was 18), I demanded a pack of John Player Special cigarettes. Numerous bouts of bronchitis, a few cancer scares and a generally awful state of personal fitness later, here I am.

I've smoked a pack, sometimes more, a day for the last 19 years. I wince whenever I see photos or videos with me in trying desperately to hide the cigarette from view. I'm genuinely not proud to be a smoker. I hate when Travis puts footage up on Rockstartup of me with a smoldering lump of tobacco stuck in my face or between my fingers.

Well, the lease is up on my house soon and I'm moving. I'm moving to a nicer house, with a higher monthly payment. It makes sense that I use this time then to start preparing. I want to turn over a new leaf. I want to save cash. I want to be healthier and enjoy my new pool (I don't have a pool at the moment). So I want to stop smoking, badly.

I used to joke that giving up smoking is easy - I've done it many times. Truth is, the trick is staying quit. I lead a stressful life and ciggies are my crutch.

So any tips?
