I am heading off to LA this morning. As always my flight is delayed... so happy I got up at 4am only to sit at the airport : ) I'm actually lucky that this flight is delayed, cheaptickets.com totally messed up my reservation and I would never have made my flight.
I tried to check in via the kiosk and that didn't work so I had to get in the regular line. As I got to the front of the line they call me on my cell phone and say "we're sorry, we didn't actually make a reservation for you. We can get you on another flight later today that flies into San Francisco and then connects to Los Angeles." I was like what? I have a print out with my confirmation number right here! "Yes, we understand that but we didn't actually book that and your flight is sold out". Great timing guys.
I spent an hour at the airline counter this morning clearing that mess up. The person at United was awesome and took care of me, getting me on the flight that was sold out. Luckily I still got an aisle seat. Are you an aisle or window person? Is there such a thing as a middle person... someone who actually prefers to be in the middle of a hot, smelly stranger sandwich?
I don't have dinner plans tonight so if anyone is bored and would like to meet up that would be cool. I am staying at the Marriott Courtyard in Marina Del Ray. Drop me a comment if you are in the area.

Well no wonder cheaptickets.com can sell them for so cheap -- they never actually book it! LOL I'm totally a window person. :)

As a very Frequent flyer (8 to 12 segments a month almost every month) I enjoy the aisle. It guarantees you at least one arm rest. One of these trips I'm going to meet up with you on the road, Ted. Stuck between two other passengers squashed up really stinks. Good luck on the rest of your flight.

Definitely the aisle... I like the view with a window seat, but I'm too claustrophobic. If I'm on the aisle I don't get the trapped feeling quite as bad!

I'm totally a window girl. A guaranteed arm rest, and a wall to lean up on when you fall asleep.
I've been traveling a lot for work, and I learned my lesson booking through third party sites. It's rarely cheaper and the hassle negates any savings. I book straight through the airlines now.

Window! No one climbing over me to get to the bathroom (better to be the climber than the climbee, I say), a great view, and a wall to lean on should I feel like napping.

What a mess, glad it turned out all right.
I'm a window person too, but these days I rarely travel without kids, and windows are great for keeping the kids distracted.
You're just a bit too far away for me to offer to meet up - I'm closer to San Diego than LA.

Aisle. When I traveled on business, I did the Monday a.m. flights to LA a bit also. Nothing worse than middle seat on 5-hr flight for a fat man.

Hi Ted!
Definitely a window person. And traveling with people who take the window then close the blind seriously bugs me - I'm like 'hey, i could have looked out the window instead' and i usually say something. If the window could be bigger, I'd love that.
BTW, I'm in Laguna Niguel, about 1/2 way between LA and San Diego tho my transport is working poorly at the moment. How long are you in the area and are you here for work or pleasure? I know of some really great restaurants near there (used to live in Torrance) if you need a reference..

For years, I was a window seat lover but since traveling to London a few times, I prefer sitting in the aisle seat. It gives me a false sense of safety but at least I won't have to climb over someone to visit the ladies. There too, is the added feature of not feeling completely hemmed-in.
Now, if I were to travel in business or first class sections it remains to be seen as to whether or not I would go for the window seat. Possibly there would be more room and it wouldn't make me feel closed-in.
More than likely your return trip will go smoothly. Enjoy your stay in La-La-Land.
