Anybody know what the average age of a blogger is? How about what percentage of bloggers are still in college, less than 24, or have kids? I honestly don't know what the figures are for those questions, if you have them, let me know! Today, lets talk about what I recently read, regarding seniors and blogging.
More and more seniors, individuals over 65, have joined the blogging ranks and have begun detailing their life stories and daily occurrences. This is a wonderful thing! The ability to self-publish [for FREE mind you] is an extraordinary opportunity.
What better way to leave records of yourselves? Now that we have this powerful tool, historical and personal events are far easier to a) document, b) discuss, and c) share with the world. Companies devoted to building websites for engaged, couples, for example, allow family members to keep up on the daily happenings leading up to the wedding in real time. Young people in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe digitally record their surroundings and give westerners a peek at what's across the ocean- all without leaving your desk.
There are some personal accounts of events coupled with a few seconds of shoddy cellphone video can be pretty amazing.
Now that the aged are jotting their pasts and presents on virtual paper, an interesting demographic arises. Those who grew up in non-technological, for the most part, era are throwing their experiences on YouTube, blogs, and even social networks.
Take a look at young Peter, better known as geriatric1927, he's gotta be one of the oldest and most loyal vloggers on YouTube. Or how about this little whipper snapper, Olive Riley, from Australia- who at 107 is quite possibly the world's oldest blogger- though she now has an assistant that helps with the typing, as she speaks. And last, this fellow, Donald Crowdis, who's Don to Earth blogspot blog proudly pulls a PR 6.
If you haven't already, call Mammy, Moms, big Mama, or whatever you call your lovely mommy dearest and get her blogging. If she's like my mom, you may have to walk her through the process a good 20 or 30 times, but I'm telling you, when she gets it- it'll be damn worth it! Send Dads to BlogSpot, if they're like my dad, he hates being 'shown' how to do things, they'll figure it out. [Sorry, Dad]
A few other honorable mentions: Dogwalk Musings, 81 year-old Modern Millie, and America's oldest blogger, Mr. Ray White who is , according to his blog, '93+.'

I'm not over 65 yet, but it's looming closer every day. I'll be 56 on my next birthday. I figure I'm one of the oldest on PPP, but I'm curious to know who else is close to my age.

My mom actually just started blogging and she'll be 60 this year. As Martha Stewart would say, "It's a good thing".
She's still a long way from understanding the whole paid blogging bit, but I'm working in it! lol

I'm a young gramma but yes, technology is not just for the young. Let's not forget that the pioneers of the internet are all over 50. Kind of like Rock n Roll. You kids didn't invent it, you inherited it from us.

Mahalo for this, Hot Tamale! I'm feeling like a spring chicken compared to the mature bloggers you've linked.
Ann - I'm one year behind you.

When my mom and dad were in their late 70's we got them a computer and showed them how to email us. My dad never really took to it, but by the age of 81 my mom was emailing pretty much daily. Unfortunately she's not with us anymore but if she was I'm certain I'd have taught her about blogging by now.
Never underestimate anyones ability to learn and to share.

I sent this post to my father, who retired last year. He started a blog an hour later. Now, I just have to break him of blogspot.
He will be assimilated. ;-)
