PPP August Pot Luck!

Today is the last day of August. Can you believe September is already here? Well, as you know the last Friday of every month is the PPP Pot Luck lunch (remember our May lunch?), which includes recognizing the Team Member of the Month, cakeplows, and Tequila shots.

Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure:

CAKEPLOW

And of course NO "fun" Friday would be complete without a cakeplow. And those team members who had birthdays this month and had to plow were:

New guy Ken opted not to do the "newbie" Tequila shot, so as a substitute he did a cakeplow as well.

Everyone have a great holiday weekend!

Countdown to DragonCon

As you probably noticed(how could you not) from Andrew's post below, he and I are going to DragonCon! If any posties are going be sure to find us in the crowd. Andrew will be in a number of different disguises. I will be a "Quest Giver" from World of Warcraft(Yeah, I'm waving my geek flag high). Be sure to see us to receive your "quests" for some cool PayPerPost schwag! The event is this weekend. We will be on the show floor on Saturday and Sunday at various intervals throughout the day. Also the RockStartup crew will be there so you might even be in a future episode! Hope to see you there!!!

David's Baby is Here!
baby_clipart_stork_2

Jenny sent around an e-mail this morning, that David & Gail's baby arrived last night at 8:40pm! He weighed-in at 6lbs 13oz. Congratulations to the new parents! I'm sure when David returns to the office he'll have plenty of photos to share!

Big company news here at PPP today!
Davidandgail

David and his wife Gail are in the delivery room at the hospital. Very shortly they will be having their first baby and it's a boy! I myself am super excited for them because not only do we work together but I am very good friends with both of them.

David has been checking in with Jenni and myself since yesterday afternoon. So I thought it would be fun if the marketing department could try and guess what time the little bouncing baby boy will arrive.

Shaun says = 3:50pm
Britt says = 4-4:30pm
Jamie says = 5:00pm
Ashley says = 5:37pm
Marty says = 7:30pm

What do you all think? Let's wait and see.

Go ahead, ask me anything.

Some of you may remember a while back when I opened myself up to questions from the community via email. I got a bunch of emails then and I am ready to take on some more. Send me an email with up to five questions to asktedmurphy@gmail.com. I will answer the questions back to you in email, you can feel free to do what you want with the answers. I will answer the first 20 for sure and will try to get to the rest depending on volume.

Have fun with it : )

Redemption for PayPerPost

Wow.. Today has been a great day! Not only did we get a story in the Wall Street Journal, but it appears that Adario Strange over at Wired also had some kind words to say. So this is what it feels like ; )

Dragon*CON

Hi! I'm Andrew, one of the newest Development Team members. I'm a network admin, therefore kinda nerdy computer guy so I'm pre-qualified required to attend Dragon*CON each year. Any posties going this year? I'd love to meet some of you! Since there are more of you than of me, you'll have to introduce yourself as one of the in-crowd. You can find me in the crowd, but finding this particular costume should be easy enough:

Wonder Whoa, man

For the posties that don't have the chance to share the magic that is Dragon*CON, we'll post about it later and will try to include some pictures (not as scary as this one, I hope :) and perhaps even video!

Today is a big day

Unless our site blows up in the next half hour today will mark a momentous occasion. Within the next 30 minutes we will cross over the 50,000 blogger mark. I would like to take a brief moment to thank everyone who has helped make this network such an amazing success.

total bloggers

First off VCDan (blog here), Michael Barach, Josh Stein and Ross Goldstein for trusting me with $10 million and recognizing the tremendous potential of this company despite the harsh critics. Next the entire PPP Team for working your ass off, keeping your eye on the goal and inspiring me with your level of awesomeliciousness. Last but certainly not least our Advertisers and Posties for building a great markeplace and community that I am proud to be a part of.

With Argus right around the corner the future looks incredibly bright (it's killing me not to show you guys this stuff). I appreciate all the hours of contribution, feedback, constructive criticism, laughs and good times. I love this company and the people that make it what it is.

Here's to the future!

The Great Wall of Posties

Posties and Advertisers we need your help! Within the next few months our new space upstairs will be complete. We'll have another 10,000 square feet of room for us to expand and we'll finally have enough space to invite you all over for a party (well... 50 at a time or so anyway). The problem is we are going to have huge amounts of bare, naked, ugly walls crying for some Postie love. We simply don't have enough pictures of you guys to fill all that space.

To those of you that are new to the Great Wall of Posties let me give you a run down of how it works.

1. Send us a framed photo of you to the address below (bonus points for dying your hair blue or making your own shirt). Please make sure that you provide your shipping address, your name, your username and your shirt size.

2. We'll take your photo and hang it on our wall. We will also do a blog post about your photo and hook you up with a link back to your site.

3. We will send you back a Postie Pack filled with cool PPP Swag.

It's that easy! Come on... it's the weekend, what else do you have to do (unless you are working today like me ; )

I am eating donut holes this morning

Who doesn't love donut holes? If you say you don't be gone from this blog ; )

I am not one to eat donuts on a regular day but today is special. Today I received the fruits of a bet with Glennis, our new Director of HR. Last week Glennis came to me with a request to purchase an applicant tracking system that ran about $1600 a month. She had worked with the same system before in her previous role at some big companies. I told her that I bet that there was free software that did the most important 80% of what she needed. She looked at me dumbfounded. "FREE!?!?!" No way. "Yes way"... "No way" this went on for a good bit. Finally we made a bet, the loser had to buy the winner donuts holes.

Sure enough, there is an awesome little open source application called CATS that provides a robust set of applicant tracking features for HR departments. I kind of feel like I cheated a bit. Glennis isn't as familiar with the world of open source as I am. She comes from companies with huge IT teams that like to buy expensive well known applications and wouldn't think of installing open source software. I feel bad, but not bad enough to not eat the donut holes.

Have any of you found some open source software that has helped you in your business or personal life that you think we should all know about? Drop a comment here.
