Does our blog suck?

You guys all know that I believe in constant change, challenge and improvement. I try to apply those principles to all aspects of my life and this company.

I think our blog has come a long way but I am sure that some of you still think it sucks. If you do I want to know why. What can we do to make it better? What type of information do you crave? What posts could you do without? I want honest and open feedback here, its the only way we can get better.

While you are at it you might want to ask your readers the same thing on your own blog. There's nothing better than a little constructive criticism to grease the old creative wheels.

I am sorry to have to say this but if you have to ask the question, then it probably sucks.

I just found it to be a lot of information about stuff that I don't even know (nor care) about; people, and places that are completely unfamiliar to me.

Why not offer some tips for bloggers? What's the modus operandi for the company? Maybe you could blog about that ala 37 Signals and simplicity.

I AGREE!

how about tips and usable info to help bloggers succeed with ppp??

i'm very new to ppp and happy with how things are going, but i really don't have very many opps that are open to me for whatever reasons... why not give us the option of seeing the whys & why-nots of how we're 'rated' to advertisers?

thanks for opening this topic up.

I don't go to each separate blog; I go to the main page where it's all aggregated. I'd love to be able to know who is the author of the post before I start reading, without having to scroll to the bottom of the entry. It's a little thing but with many authors it makes a difference.

Also, it would be great if the person who authors the post is required to return and answer each comment, even if several comments are covered at a time. You (Ted) do this as does Mr. Fab. Not everyone else does, though. If you're not going to return to respond to the commenters, why post in the first place?

And Ted, you might want to drop by this thread to reassure everyone. We've determined it's not just PPP blogs being hit but I think a word from you would help.

You hit it on the head. Sucks. Pretty good word. I agree with the previous comments completely. And frankly, it would be nicer of you to get rid of the NO FOLLOW that you have on this blog. What's up with that?

"I think our blog has come a long way but I am sure that some of you still think it sucks. If you do I want to know why."

I'd have to say "YES" for one big reason: visibility.

Specifically, this blog (and most of the PPP site for that matter), like SO many others these days has fallen into the pattern of using light to medium gray text colors on a white or off white background.

I can't speak for everybody else but *I* find color combinations like that VERY hard to read. It may not be "artistic" or "fashionable" to use high contrast color combinations but it's bloody well easier to read.

For example on one blog I have white on black, another is gray(almost white) on dark gray, and a third is orange on black.. high contrast, easy to read combinations.

Oh, another factor is font size. I try to keep them at no less than 10 points, frequently choosing 12 points for better readability.

When text is either really small, or using hard to read color combinations I start thinking that people don't REALLY want me to read it and that perhaps it's only there for search engines. Thing is, SE's have been aware of that kind of tactic for years and it's just not a good idea.

Bottom line, If a site is hard to read, I'm way less likely to bother trying. Yes, there's things I can do on my end to override the difficulty, but it's a lot friendlier if a site is designed so that I don't have to.

One tiny thing more...As bloggers who are putting up sponsored ads, whether they are designated as such or not, are expected to use the best English possible. If we are expected to have the best English on our blogs, it seems to me that you should be held to that standard as well. Today alone, I have found TWO English no no's on a couple of blog entries. All that has to be done is for a proof read before submitting, right?

That's what I have to do. We all make mistakes. Got that. But if we are held to a standard, don't you have to be as well? (PS. One of the mistakes is on this blog entry. NA NA!!)

Not only the blog but also the T-shirts! Why would I want a BEEFY T? It will make me look so FAT! You didn't have sexy ladies in mind when you had them done, didn't you? What about us who want to look gorgeous with our PPP lady tees?

I second the thoughts about font and color (bigger and darker please), author at the top (I read the meshed blog. Don't want to miss anything), and would love to have you go "do follow" (don't you want to help us with PR?).

I'd also like to see more guest bloggers that are super sucessful using PPP, or even just way more so then I.

I would like to see more things about blogging tools such as widgets or cool websites to help bloggers. Of course, you might be saving this to surprise us with Argus, so I'll wait and see :P

I liked the old PPP Blog much better. I found I visited it more often & commented more. And I agree with Alan - it could do with more information geared towards bloggers and how to improve posts, include widgets etc.

Ted,
I'd like to see the ability to subscribe to comments. Lately I have been commenting and would love to know when a follow up comment has been posted.
