Archive: March 2008
As you know at each IZEA Loco we name "RockStars" of the month. They include Advertiser of the Month, Postie of the Month and RockStar of the Month (i.e., employee of the month).
I'm happy to share with you the March RockStars, which were revealed last Friday:
Advertiser of the Month
This month the recognition goes to Randall Richards of Refer Me Biz and Bloggers for Hope. Not only is Randall an Advertiser who avidly supports IZEA, he's brave as well -- he visited our office on Friday and actually did a cakeplow!
Postie of the Month
This honor goes to Postie Heather in Beautiful British Columbia. Heather actually got slammed with a virtual cakeplow this past Friday. If you missed it click here, or watch the video below:
RockStar of the Month
The IZEA RockStar of the Month is Eric. You can learn more about Eric by visiting his page on RockStartUp.com.
You can check-out photos from IZEA Loco visit the set we created on our Flickr account.
Won't you join us for March's IZEA Loco? We're streaming live from IZEA headquarters, and you can watch us http://www.ustream.tv/channel/izea-loco. We'll also be Twittering, and you can follow us at Twitter.com/IZEAinc. And if you missed the Postie virtual cakeplows, click here.
As you know today is IZEA Loco, our once-a-month company celebration. The majority of teammembers wear green somewhere on their body, but some take it to the next level. Tina definitely wins the "unofficial" spirit-of-the-day award for her outfit. And I have to wonder if she's on the path to challenging Ted to a future dress-off. What do you think?
You've got to give her props on the nails -- she paid to have those done!
Blog America Tour, Part 2:
Watch Ted, Travis and Ashley as they make their way across the country to PostieCon. Don't miss Ted as he gets bucked by a bull!
...and in case you missed the beginning of the Blog America Tour, here's last episode!
And don't forget to join the new RockStartUp Network!
Tomorrow is IZEA Loco, our monthly company potluck and birthday/anniversary celebrations. We all wear green. We all eat lots. And some [unlucky] folks have to do cakeplows. Why should you care? Well, because you can actually be a part of it.
For the past few Locos we've been streaming the fun live here on the blog via Ustream.tv. We've also been Twittering at the same time, so that means you can both live chat with us (in the Ustream.tv chatroom) as well as follow us on Twitter.
We're doing things a little differently this month. So here's the scoop: we'll be having our team lunch at 12pm EDT. You don't really care about that, I'm sure. Then at 4pm we'll reconvene and start our live feed. Just before then I'll post the link here on the blog as well as on our Twitter page, so you know where to find us.
I also have a couple of tasks for you, should you choose to accept it:
1. Take a photo of yourself wearing something green. (Keep it clean, please!)
2. Send the photo to me at ashley[at]izea[dot]com by 12pm EDT tomorrow. We'll be using it for a "secret" project.
3. Join us at 4pm EDT to see who has to do a cakeplow. (Hint, hint...yours truly has to do one.)
4. Come be part of our Cakeplow Community. If you have your own photo(s) or video of doing a cakeplow you can add them to the site.
See you tomororw!
Some more confessionals for ya. This week we have David, Carri, Gordon and Magical Trevor.
What do you guys think of the Blip.tv player?
Thanks to everyone who joined us for today's lunch chat. If you missed it and would like to see what happened then click here and select "Lunch with Ash & V." (I would embed the video here but it automatically starts playing on the blog homepage, and that gets a little annoying.) * Please note we had some technical issues with Ustream.tv, and there's no sound for the first 10 minutes. But it picks up and we get rolling just after that. *
As we mentioned in our chat today, we've put the call out for video submissions from folks who are interested in sitting-in on the "Fab Four" panel at IZEAFest this September. If you're interested here's what you need to do:
1. Create a 2-3 minute video telling us why you would like to be one of the four panel members.
2. Be creative.
3. Once the video is complete and uploaded to your preferred video sharing site, place the link in the comments field of Ted's original post, or if you've created a blog post to support the video place that link here.
4. Be creative.
5. The four selected will each receive $250 when they arrive in Orlando. That means you're making money off of the deal!
So submit your video as soon as you can! If you want to see what last year's Fab Four panel was all about to get an idea of what's involved then simply visit PostieCon.com.(To view the rules & regulations associated with this contest, please click here.)
We've also received one postcard to-date but we need more! All you have to do is send us a postcard of the city you live in to:
c/o Lunch with Ash & V
150 North Orange Avenue, Suite 412
Orlando, FL 32801
For those of you who did make it to today's session, here's a little treat for you (you'll know what we mean):
A little reminder to join myself and Veronique for lunch today. We'll be streaming live here on our blog, as well as Twittering (http://www.Twitter.com/IZEAInc). Check-out part of our lunch from last week. If you have anything specific you'd like for us to talk about this week you can e-mail us at lunchwithashandv[at]izea[dot]com.
This week we'll be talking about events going on in the worldosphere, the blogosphere and, of course, the IZEAsphere. We invite Posties and Advertisers alike to join-in on the conversation.
See you at 12pm EDT!
IZEAFest planning is coming along well. I previously announced that Shoemoney will be keynoting one of the days and Loren Feldman will be running a session as well. In addition we have confirmed some other great speakers. I am pleased to announce that Christopher Schmitt has joined the Extreme Blog Makeover Panel. Chris has authored three books, including the CSS Cookbook.
Chris will be bringing some books as door prizes. He is a very likable guy... I am sure he will sign yours if you ask : )
Here is a brief summary of the session:
Three designers (including Chris) will sit on a panel together. For the first 30 minutes of the presentation they will ask for blog URLs from the audience and deconstruct them on the spot, making recommendations for improvement. Feedback will be focused on design aesthetic, branding, usability, information architecture, css and seo. The last 30 minutes will be broken into 3 individual presentations by each of the speakers.
Each speaker will be provided with a blog URL in advance. The speaker will create a 10 minute presentation about the blog's strengths and weaknesses. At the end of the presentation the speaker will do a reveal, showing the new design of the blog (either as a comp or fully coded page). The blogger who owns the URL will be able to keep the comp or page design.
I will do a post as we get closer to the event asking for blog entries for the makeover session.
Other speaker news
- Susie Gardner, author of Blogging for Dummies, will be leading a session
- Lena West, a favorite from last year, will be on a panel about Social Networking
- Katia Adams of 1800Flowers will be on the "What Advertisers Want" panel
It is shaping up to be a great event. Make sure you save up and put in for vacation time! You can find a roommate on the boards.
If you are interested in speaking on the Fab4 panel (and getting a nice $250 spiff) please make sure to submit your video.
It's been awhile since the IZEA employees have done a confessional, so we are making an effort to keep these coming now. These videos give you further insight into the inner workings of the IZEA team. To start it off we have 3 new confessionals for you. Confessional veteran Britt, along with newbies Ross and Sandi. Enjoy!
